Stability and Instability Conditions for Slotted Aloha with Exponential Backoff
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper provides stability and instability conditions for slotted Aloha under the exponential backoff (EB) model with geometric law i 7→ b0 , when transmission buffers are in saturation, i.e., always full. In particular, we prove that for any number of users and for b > 1 the system is: (i) ergodic for i0 > 1, (ii) null recurrent for 0 < i0 ≤ 1, and (iii) transient for i0 = 0. Furthermore, when referring to a system with queues and Poisson arrivals, the system is shown to be stable whenever EB in saturation is stable with throughput λ0 and the system input rate is upper-bounded as λ < λ0. Stability Region of a Slotted Aloha Network with K-Exponential Backoff
Stability region of random access wireless networks is known for only simple network scenarios. The main problem in this respect is due to interaction among queues. When transmission probabilities during successive transmissions change, e.g., when exponential backoff mechanism is exploited, the interactions in the network are stimulated. In this paper, we derive the stability region of a buffer...
متن کاملResearch on Stability Control Algorithm of Slotted ALOHA
—Because of its simplification, slotted ALOHA is comprehensive used in the satellite and wireless communication. While slotted ALOHA is essentially unstable. Therefore various kinds of control algorithms are applied in order to keep stable throughput of the communication system. In this paper, pPersistent Control Algorithm (pPCA) of slotted ALOHA is analyzed using binomial distribution model, ...
متن کاملEffect of exponential backoff scheme and retransmission cutoff on the stability of frequency-hopping slotted ALOHA systems
The combinatorial effect of an exponential backoff scheme and retransmission cutoff on the stability of frequencyhopping slotted ALOHA systems with finite population is investigated in terms of the catastrophe theory. In the systems, the packet retransmission probabilities are geometrically distributed with respect to the number of experienced unsuccessful transmissions and a packet will be dis...
متن کاملDelay distributions of slotted ALOHA and CSMA
In this paper, we derive the closed-form delay distributions of slotted ALOHA and nonpersistent carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) protocols under steady state. Three retransmission policies are analyzed. We find that under a binary exponential backoff retransmission policy, finite average delay and finite delay variance can be guaranteed for 2 and 4 3, respectively, where is the channel traf...
متن کاملEffect of Exponential Backoff on the Performance of Network Coding in a Slotted Aloha Network
In this paper we study the effect of exponential backoff on the performance of network coding in a simple ad hoc network working based on slotted Aloha. To this end, we devise an analytical model based on an open multi-class queueing network to represent our scenario. In this model, by mapping backoff status of packet transmissions onto suitable classes of customers on one hand, and employing t...
